Let’s talk about love

February 9, 2010

Screen shot 2010-02-09 at 7.58.18 PMWith all of the controversy surrounding Gottlieb’s new book “Marry Him”, released just before the big V-Day, other dating books seem to have taken a backseat.  One such book was brought to my attention by Marie Claire dating blogger Maura Kelly.  The book is called US: Americans Talk About Love, and after speaking with 1,000 people about their relationships, what worked, and what didn’t…author John Bowe had to reconsider a few of his own beliefs about love.  Here are a few:

1. Love at first sight really does exist, at least to get relationships jump-started.  So believe it.

2. You can’t force love, but you have to be ready to see it and act upon it.  Mostly, love is about making choices along the path of a relationship, as the author states: “a choice to be fun, a choice not to be pissy, a choice to go the extra mile, or a choice to forgive”.

3. Relationships are not all about working hard.  In fact, we shouldn’t think of them as “work”, or else we’re missing the point.

Just a little V-Day love for your Tuesday night…be well!  I’m off to get my own copy of Bowe’s book and read some stories.

Ah, a nice change from all the anti-Vday stuff I’m reading right now. Not sure love at first sight does exist though. Lust at first sight, maybe – but not love.

Sounds like a relationship related book that I might actually like. As jaded as I can sometimes be, I do still be in love, and I believe it’s very much a choice (or rather, a collection of choices).
